Leave the bustling town of Zakopane behind as you journey toward Pieniny National Park, home to one of Poland’s most spectacular natural wonders—the Dunajec River Gorge. After a scenic drive through the foothills of the Tatra Mountains, you’ll arrive at the rafting departure point in Sromowce Niżne, where a local rafter in traditional costume will greet you and guide your raft down the winding river.
The traditional wooden rafts, steered by skilled highlanders (called flisacy), will carry you gently along the river for up to 2.5 hours, all the way to the spa town of Szczawnica. Along the way, you’ll pass towering limestone cliffs, forests, and dramatic peaks such as the Three Crowns and Sokolica. You’ll even spot the Red Monastery across the Slovakian border—this natural river forms part of the international boundary between Poland and Slovakia.
After the rafting portion, you’ll have free time in Szczawnica to enjoy lunch or explore the town before returning comfortably to Zakopane. This is an ideal activity for families, couples, and nature lovers looking to enjoy a calm yet captivating adventure in the mountains.
