Kościelisko spreads along the foot of the Tatras just west of Zakopane, a landscape of meadows, tall spruces and wooden houses that looks its best under snow. This outing takes you through it on a traditional horse-drawn sleigh, often beneath a clear, starry sky, and suits families and groups looking for an easy winter experience without any effort.
The sleighs are large, with eight seats, and shared between guests, which keeps the price friendly. The ride lasts about an hour, with stops whenever there is a good picture to take.
Back at the fire, about an hour of simple highland hospitality follows: grilled sausage with bread, ketchup and mustard, and as much regular or highlander tea as you like, while a traditional band of górale musicians plays. Transport from your hotel and back is included, and the whole thing takes around three hours.
