In town: easy wins for every age
Gubałówka
The funicular ride up Gubałówka is an attraction in itself for children, and it starts a short walk from Krupówki. At the top there is an alpine coaster, rope courses, bouncy play areas and a long ridge with views of the Tatras. The funicular is adapted for wheelchairs and works well with pushchairs. In the busy season, go in the morning or late afternoon.
Rówień Krupowa and Krupówki
The park at Rówień Krupowa has a playground, open lawns and paved paths, with Giewont as a backdrop. From there, Krupówki is car-free, with horse-drawn carriages (sleighs in winter) and the market near Gubałówka, where children can try grilled oscypek with cranberry sauce.
TPN Nature Education Centre
The Tatra National Park’s Nature Education Centre, at Chałubińskiego 42a near the Kuźnice roundabout, is ideal for a rainy day. Its modern exhibition features life-size dioramas, a discovery room for children, a cinema and one of the largest models of the Tatras in Poland. Children can also pick up an activity booklet and earn a badge.
Tatra Museum
Older children enjoy the highland rooms, costumes and stories of the Tatra Museum on Krupówki, especially if you set them a small treasure hunt beforehand.
Into the mountains with children
You do not need to climb a summit to show children the Tatras. These walks are easy, and most have a mountain hut or a natural highlight as a goal.
- Dolina Strążyska: an hour’s walk through the forest to the Siklawica waterfall. Good for children from about four.
- Dolina Chochołowska: long and flat, with a wide gravel road that is fine for pushchairs on the lower section, and a hut at the end.
- Dolina Kościeliska: a broad valley with rock gateways and caves; older children love the narrow passages.
- Morskie Oko: about 9 km each way on a paved road. Long for small legs, but easy for pushchairs and very rewarding.
Our Morskie Oko trip from Zakopane can be done with a private driver, so you go at your family’s pace without worrying about parking.

Remember that the Tatra National Park charges a small entry fee (children are discounted), dogs are not allowed on most trails, and walking is not allowed at night.
Wielka Krokiew: feel like a ski jumper
Wielka Krokiew is Poland’s most famous ski jump and the venue of the Ski Jumping World Cup. A year-round chairlift carries visitors to the top, where children can see what ski jumpers see before they jump, with a view over the whole of Zakopane.
Water and warmth: thermal baths
Thermal pools are a favourite with children in any weather. Termy Zakopiańskie is right in town; Terma Bania in Białka Tatrzańska is especially family-oriented, with play zones for younger children; and Chochołowskie Termy is the largest complex in the region. Check age rules for saunas and some pool zones before you go.
Winter fun for kids
- First skiing: Polana Szymoszkowa has a children’s area at the bottom station and ski schools offering lessons for children. Under Polish law, children under 16 must wear a helmet on the slopes.
- Sledging: many gentle slopes around town are used for sledging; sledges can be bought or rented locally.
- Husky sledding: our husky sled ride near Zakopane lets children meet the dogs and ride behind the team in a quiet village. It is suitable for children.
- Sleigh rides through snowy valleys work for all ages; wrap up warmly, as you sit still for a long time.

A day trip families love: treetops in Slovakia
Just across the border, the Bachledka treetop walk leads through the forest canopy to a 32 m tower with views of the Tatras. Our Slovak Tatras day trip combines it with the lake at Štrbské Pleso and private transport from Zakopane. Bring ID for every family member.

Practical tips for families
- Plan short days: one main activity in the morning and something relaxed in the afternoon works best.
- Pushchairs: a sturdy all-terrain pushchair handles the Morskie Oko road and the lower valleys; a child carrier is better on rocky trails.
- Layers for everyone: the weather changes fast, and it is cooler in the valleys than in town.
- Snacks and water: huts are spaced far apart on some routes.
- Avoid the busiest days: long weekends and school holidays bring crowds and queues.
